Image of the coat of arms of Kostroma Governorate. In the center of the shield is depicted a Varangian ship with an eagle's head on the bow and a sail with a flag. The shield is crowned with a crown with a cross. On the sides of the shield are branches with leaves, entwined with a ribbon. Above the coat of arms is the inscription: "Highest approved: July 5, 1878."
